Braidlace

In 1936 Harry Terry founded Braids & Laces, near to downtown Toronto, at Front and Sherbourne Street. Initially Braids & Laces made shoelaces for the many shoe manufacturers that existed in Toronto at that time. The company grew during World War II when it began braiding cord for ammunition box handles. There was limited production space so a warehouse and sales office was opened in Willowdale during this time. In 1949 the company transitioned to the next generation when Harry’s children Ted & Candace Terry took over. In the early 1960’s the company grew when skate lace and marine rope production started. More space was needed and in 1968 the manufacturing was moved to a 14,400 square foot facility located one hour North East of Toronto where we are still located today. In the mid 1970’s Ted’s children Peter and Mike Terry took control of operations and they moved the sales office and warehouse from Willowdale to Richmond Hill. In 2008 after working for the company for many years, Henk and Barb (Terry) Klei purchased the business from Barb’s father Peter and her uncle Mike. Henk and Barb set out to modernize and stream line production. The sales office and warehouse was moved back under the same roof as the production and they are continually investing in new equipment to produce the best products in the industry. Being the 4th generation of the family to manufacture textile products, they put these many cumulative years of knowledge to use to provide outstanding quality and service their customers can depend on while bringing fresh perspective to the industry.
